The appliance technician technician is expected to work independently, prioritize work orders, maintain accurate documentation, and ensure all work is completed safely and in compliance with applicable codes, licensing requirements, and company standards.
This role is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, installing, and maintaining residential appliances across multiple New York City properties.
EPA Section 608 certification is required when performing refrigerant-related work.
requirements
- diagnose and repair major residential appliances, including refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, stoves, ovens, and microwaves
- perform appliance installations and replacements in occupied and vacant apartments in accordance with company policies and applicable codes
- test appliances following repair or installation to verify safe and proper operation
- perform preventive maintenance inspections and appliance assessments during unit turnovers.
- order parts, manage inventory, and coordinate with vendors for repairs and replacements
- document diagnoses, completed work, parts used, resident communication, photographs, and next steps in the work order management system
- update work orders promptly when status changes, additional approvals, parts, vendor assistance, or access issues arise
- complete assigned work orders within established service standards and close work orders only after verifying proper operation
- interpret work orders and communicate repair status with property management and maintenance staff
- perform warranty and non-warranty repairs while maintaining complete service history records
other general responsibilities
- perform general maintenance duties in apartments, common areas, and building systems as assigned
- prioritize appliance repairs in occupied apartments and support vacant apartment work when required
- complete assigned preventive maintenance tasks
- maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies, notifying management when replenishment is needed
- report safety concerns, property damage, and on-site incidents to management
- maintain clean and organized work areas while following all safety policies and procedures
- assist with seasonal responsibilities, including snow removal at building entrances, sidewalks, and parking areas
- maintain a professional appearance, provide excellent customer service, and perform other duties as assigned
- Participation in the on-call rotation is required.
who you are
- one to three years of experience in appliance repair or a related technical field
- able to stand for up to 8 hours, occasionally climb ladders, and lift up to 75 pounds unassisted
- experience in replacement and repair of appliances including refrigerators, washers, dishwashers, dryers, and stoves
- working knowledge of electrical and plumbing systems as they relate to appliance installation
- high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required; trade or technical school or industry related courses preferred
- EPA Section 608 certification preferred; OSHA certification required
- a valid driver's license and reliable transportation to respond to on-call emergencies across multiple New York City properties
- applicants who are offered a position will be required to pass a background check and pre-employment drug test
